Cultural Issues

Culture in the United Kingdom compared to Australia is pretty similar, being as Australia was colonised by the British. One of the major ways they differ though is respect towards is how they present themselves, with the British being a bit more conscious towards how they appear to others, and Australians being a bit more "free" with their actions. They also have a population domminated by christians at (46.2%).

Being a country ruled by a monarchy, royality is a big matter in the UK, with the population respecting and valuing their presence, so it is important to not speak negatively or jokingly about them in your time overseas. Doing so can lead you into big trouble socially, as big events such as the queen's death is not to be devalued.

It is important when interacting with others overseas that you give a tip, usually an amount of 10-15% for restraunts. This is in particular if they have helped you directly to some degree, as it is seen as a symbol of respect and appreciation of their effort.

In the UK you should also stand to the right most of the time (while walking, on escelators), unlike Australia where you usually stand on the left for most things.

There are also many words that may have slightly different meanings in the UK, such as chips which refer to potato chips in most countries, but mean hot fries in England or pants in Australia being called trousers in England.
